The primary responsibility of the Senior Legal Counsel is to provide legal support to all Business Units forming part of the Company.

Job Responsibilities:

• Advise the Company and its Officers on all legal matters for the purpose of ensuring compliance with applicable laws, minimizing risk, and supporting informed decision making.
• Draft and advise on all contracts to achieve commercial goals.
• Direct all litigation matters involving the Company with limited supervision, monitor external counsel performance and billings, coordinate contingent liability reporting to Auditors and other departments.
• Participate in Compliance investigations, and lead investigations with potential corporate legal liabilities.

Job Requirements:

• Most senior legal counsel positions require a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in law, although some employers prefer a master’s degree in law.
• Law degrees provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the legal system, including civil and criminal law, contracts, torts, constitutional law and business law.
• Many senior legal counsel positions also require a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree.
• The J.D. is a professional doctorate that takes three years to complete.
• Students spend the first two years in law school and the final year completing an internship in a legal setting.
• Most of a senior legal counsel’s training will take place while they are in school.
• They will learn the basics of the law and how to research and analyze information.
