As of 2020, about 13 percent of ticketing agents worked in the commercial aviation industry. Some were also employed in commercial busing and train service. Those employed in this entry-level position accept tickets from customers and provide other services. The Bureau of Labor Statistics, or BLS, reports that about 57,780 ticket and reservation agents were employed in the United States as of 2020.

Responsibilities:

  • The primary duty listed in an agent’s ticketing job description is accepting tickets from passengers in airports, bus stations and train stations.
  • They make sure that the name on the ticket matches the name on a passenger’s identification, and report any suspicious behavior.
  • Airline ticketing agent duties and resonsibilities entail making boarding announcements, checking passengers’ baggage, issuing boarding passes, and ensuring that passengers board the aircraft in an orderly manner. If requested, the ticketing agent assists passengers with boarding.
  • AvjobsĀ indicates that ticket agents must inform flight attendants when a child is flying alone or a patient with a disability has special needs for the flight. Ticketing agents also field questions from those who need directions or have missed their plane, train or bus. Their shifts are irregular with evening, weekend, holiday and overtime hours expected.
